Pest Details
Stinging insects such as wasps, yellow jackets, and hornets all belong to the order of insects known as Hymenoptera. They are sometimes considered as beneficial insects as they are pollinators. Some parasitic wasps are even being used in agricultural past control as predators that seek out and destroy crop damaging pests. Depending upon the specific species, nests are built in trees, shrubs, or in protected places such as inside human-made structures (attics, hollow walls/flooring, under porches, eaves of houses, and sheds). They can also be found in mouse burrows, soil cavities, bushes and trees etc. Most wasps build nests under eaves and soffits with the nest usually being round in shape and resembling a honeycomb pattern. Yellow Jackets have a tendency to build nests covered with a gray and black colored paper-like material. Hornets build nests that resemble a large, inverted tear drop shaped ball.
